ABOUT

The St. Katharine Drexel Conference in Heath, Ohio, is a Catholic parish and community organization within the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  We are dedicated to faith, service, and outreach.

 brief history of our conference

The Early Years

The conference in Newark was already well established when Deacon Larry Wilson arrived in 2005. At that time, leadership included Russell Robinson serving as president, Fr. Michael Reis as spiritual advisor, and Fred Coe as treasurer. After Fred Coe became ill and later passed away, Larry Wilson stepped in to assume the role of treasurer. Jane King is also fondly remembered for her dedication and for playing a vital role in helping to keep the conference alive.

Financial Challenges & Faith

Early budgets ranged from $10,000 to $15,000 per year, with funds raised through church door collections and by passing the hat at meetings. Finances were often tight, sometimes dropping to just a few hundred dollars. Despite these challenges, the conference remained debt-free and relied on faith, frequently receiving unexpected help when it was needed most.

Growth & Stability

A second collection at Sunday Mass significantly improved the conference’s financial stability. The organization continued to grow through the generosity of parishioners, as well as strong faith and perseverance. This ministry reflects a long-standing tradition of service, sustained and supported by God’s providence.

Community Involvement

Participation in the Walk for the Poor in Columbus provided valuable financial support while also strengthening connections with other conferences. Through this involvement, the conference continues to collaborate and engage with the wider SVdP community.
